Sometimes even ghost knows whom to make scream the beat…..
Pretham is Malayalam movie starring Jayasurya as mentalist and Aju Varghese, Sharafudheen and Govind Padmasoorya as three friends frightened by paranormal activity in their hotel. So does the Horror- Comedy combination (Horr-Com) impacts the mind of the audience, let’s explore with Pretham Movie Review.
Pretham is the third collaboration of actor Jayasurya and Director Ranjith Shankar and in the last 30 days second movie where Jayasurya is sharing screen space with actor Aju Varghese (after Shajahanum Pareekuttiyum).
Three friends reunite after 12 years of college to fulfill their college dream. The perfect fun life with their new resort is going smooth until they start witnessing paranormal activities. And before they can understand what is wrong enters, John Don Bosco a mentalist who can help if them, only who can stop blaming him for the troubles.
I love Malayalam films. No one explores the genre like they do. Sometimes, of course, they make blind masala flicks but few thinks as well. Like Pretham is fun, comedy and has less to view but a lot to offer. Pretham can be a good example to understand about conceptualization and how different situation are connected in movies.
The film has a fresh looks fresh story and somewhere within limited spaces the team has given the maximum fun. The movie begins with the story of three friends but moves very systematically towards introducing Jayasurya as John Don Bosco the mentalist. Although he enters as a big star but even then instead of reducing space-time of other actors he has given them ample place to showcase their acting and chemistry. As far as the story is concerned a nice scripted scenario with the pace which is neither too fast or too slow thus goes with the mind of the audience.
Pretham has majorly 1 or 2 songs which are kept at the right time to avoid break in the flow of story. This is the second release of the week starring Jayasurya. The first one IDI an action pack movie. Pretham on another hand simply makes the 2 hours full of laughter and scary with twists of horror. Towards the end the movie is serious but doesn’t kill the atmosphere off suspense and horror. Every actor in the movie has done an honest job and with less role and scope of heroine the 4 male actors carried the movie in an organized way.
The jokes are pretty fresh like a spoiler but in one scene where one friends asks,”Why did you get divorced?” the other replies, “Because after few years marriage I realized she was after my money and not love.” So like a typical friend, the first one very innocently replies, “But then you don’t have anything else to offer.” A true friend born to insult. The song Oruthikkupinnil (click here to listen) is a light-hearted fun song establishing the bond of friendship and fun life of 3 friends.
Overall more or less the movie won’t bore the audience.
